2003 4.2 oil pan removal

I am in the process of curing various oil leaks. All that’s left is resealing the oil pan. I’m fully aware to remove the pan Ford says to pull the engine. I think raising the engine as much as possible and dropping the pan down(not removing) could give enough room to clean pan rails and apply new sealer. Has anyone given this method a try? Care would be taken not to drop sealer into the pan and reaching in to remove any debris dropped. I have done this on other equipment but wonder if anything prevents this?

If you do it carefully, then I would assume you'd be OK. It's just going to be an arduous task.
