4R70W tranny problem

Hello, I am new here, I tried to search for same problem, but not exactly the same, so I thought if I post this, maybe you can direct me to a post with exact problems), I bought the truck in FL, drove it to WI, worked fine and the colder the weather got, I noticed the truck would wait a few seconds and then go into forward, the colder it got, the worse it got, then it would not go into forward at all and had reverse for a while, so I drove it 1 blk in reverse to house and dropped the pan, the tranny was really sludged up so I cleaned the pan, changed the filter and put fresh fluid in, started it up and it waited a second after in drive and went forward, then I drove it for 20 minutes and went around a corner and lost forward again, reverse is working fine, the it got to 50 degrees and tried it, I revved the engine and kept it higher than Idle and it went forward, I had to use reverse to back out of driveway and again no forward, I dropped pan again and found sludge in the pan so I put new fluid and a can of seafoam tranny cleaner, still no forward. Could this be the sensors inside the ranny? I am wondering if I pull the brick off the tranny and use brake cleaner and clean out the channels and sensors, if it will work? Yes, I was thinking of towing it back to Florida, LOL

You should check for transmission codes set, first and if the shifter lamp came on or flashed at anytime.
These would tell you if there is an electrical control issue.
The fact that you have reverse indicates there is front pump pressure being developed because Reverse does not use any electric solenoid controls.
Reverse is entered manually when the selector moves to that position.
Otherwise the trans needs service due to abuse from the previous owner.

Note: asking if some one else had this problem is not a way to get help but state your problem straight out and wait for a reply.
Every problem needs evaluation and depends on your accurate report.
Good luck.

I would say the transmission needs service. If you found sludge things are already on their way out. Automatic transmissions are very sensitive.

Could be a couple different reasons. Have you checked the fluid?

Are you sure you don't have an engine problem?
