Fuel Pump or not?

I'm having an issue with my truck randomly not starting I have changed out the fuel filter and also changed out the relays. Only does this at very random times. It never dies when driving only when trying to start, acts like its not getting fuel. Once it starts no issues. I've been told its the fuel pump, anyone come across this issue?

Easy to check the fuel pressure on this vintage. Probably could borrow a gauge from Autozone or similar place.

And what sods the manual say the pressure should be for your vehicle?also many times it seems easier to remove the bed versus dropping tank if you have to change pump.

I've decided to just go ahead and change the pump. I've found several videos on youtube explaining the install and doing it by raising the bed. Thanks

If you turn the key on and get 30 psi, the pump works.

Are you getting any codes? I'd look for something else if it has 30psig fuel pressure.

Iac

My 98 had a similar problem back in 2002. I don't recall if it set a code but it was still under the extended warranty and they replaced the IAC, the PCV and hose and cleaned out the throttle body. My records show it had 79850 miles on it.

When my fuel pump went out I had no problem starting it, it would just die intermittently. I'd wait 5 min or so and it would start right back up.
There were no codes set for this condition and I pulled the bed to swap it.

Good luck
Dave
