1998 F150 V6 Setting for a year

This is my first vehicle.

I am looking at getting a 1998 F150, V6 that has been sitting for about 14 months. I ran fine before being parked.

Before I try and start it what should I look at 1st?

I would like to see if it runs before I buy it, but wanted to make sure trying to start it would not cause more harm than good.

Thanks

At a minimum, I would disable the ignition and turn the engine on the starter to get the oil circulating before starting.
Ideally, you probably should also drain the gas tank and refill with fresh fuel and change the engine oil before starting.

It's easier to disable the fuel pump, just pull the fuse. No need to change the oil, get it running then change it.
