Found an abandoned 1997 Lariat. Keys in it. 59k

As some of you, I recently suffered severe health issues. No more V10 swapping type projects ever again. As a result, I sold off most of my fleet and moved across the country to a smaller house in a tiny little town in Florida. I explore my new neighborhood every morning on my handicap scooter and a few mornings ago, I came across what you see in the pictures. The town I live in has neighborhoods that never fully developed because of the real estate crash. As a result, there are roads with no names and places Florida is taking back from man. I'm going to look into obtaining a title and we'll see what happens from there.

Here's the new shack...

Looks like a nice home to me. Makes you wonder why it was abandoned. Maybe died and the owner owed money on it and walked away from it. Thousands of homes in FL were abandoned with the owners walking away from them and the mortgage. Let us know how it turns out.

The house with the Viper out front is my new place. It's unrelated to the F150 except in the same general neighborhood. Definitely not abandoned, it's a like new house. Not even a scratch on the walls.

First glance the headliner looked like a theft or bank loan dump type of situation

It sort of looks like the owner dumped it so that he could report it stolen and get out from under the loan and/or get the insurance money for it. In the last few years, it's gotten EXTREMELY tough to register a vehicle here in Florida if you don't have a title!!! And a title that is not in the current owner's name (a so called "open title") is NOT legal and DMV will refuse to honor them. A Bill of Sale is useless and the state frequently refuses to take out of state titles. I would proceed with caution until I found what the legal status of this vehicle is and I wouldn't put a dime into it until I had a Fla title in my name!

I mixed my discussion of the abandoned truck with the abandoned homes that I was aware of after the big recession. My bad! I definitely wasn't trying to insult your beautiful new home!

My wife and I looked at dozens of abandoned foreclosed houses in FL around the Ft. Meyers area and the Naples area back in 2009. 3 BR, 2 car garage, 1600 to 1800 sq ft homes could be had for $50k to $80. Lots of them had Chinese drywall that could be smelled upon entry. I think there was a class action lawsuit about the Chinese drywall. It had some chemical in it that would actually cause the wiring in the home to corrode. All of it had to replaced and I never knew what the disposal procedure was.

In 2008, I worked at the Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant, the one that was never restarted. I lived in Homossassa and I liked the area. I would be happy living there but the wife thought we were too far from major shopping centers. Lots of retirees living in that area.

I was wondering the same thing after I saw the inside of the roof. But if it was submerged I would expect to see massive rust on it. OP Have you checked the oil and other fluids to see if there's water in them? I would be SURE to check the differentials and transmission BEFORE I drove it. I've had few vehicles that were driven in too deep water and I've found the tranny and diffs full of oil & water mix.
