Towing mpg

I'm going to be towing a enclosed car trailer 650miles one way . my drag car will be in it .my truck has the 5.4 2v 4X4 ext cab short bed and I will be towing roughly 6-7500K never towed anything this far and was wanting to know what I should watch for . And any tips to getting better mpg while towing this far. I was wanting to do a cold air intake and maybe a tuner throttle body spacer . Anything to help mpg.

a tuner with a tow tune should help with how efficiently your truck moves the weight and get you an extra mile or two. But your driving style will dictate your mileage most of all. You know the old wives tales, no jack rabbit starts, maintain a steady speed, that kind of thing.

Air intake and TB spacer will do nothing for you. A tuner is you best source of improvement, that and good sparkplugs.

Figure about 8 mpg no matter what you do. Do NOT tow that heavy with OD on. Spend your money on a programmer with custom tunes and a heavy duty transmission cooler.

You may already have these, but you will also need a Trailer Brake Controller and a Weight Distributing Hitch with sway control.

I totally agree with the above posters too, and, as Bluejay said, the Air Intake and TB spacer is a complete waste of money.

You don't say what kind of terrain you're going to be towing that load over and what your rear axle ratio is. If it's mountainous, your truck should be equipped with the tow package. Keep your speed below 65 mph. Trailer tires are not rated for speeds higher than that.
