1999 f150 brake locks up
1999 f150 brake locks up

I own a Ford F150 CUB CAB 4X4 AND THE BRAKES LOCK UP AFTER IT GETS ABOUT 15 MILES ON THEM THE 2 FRONT DISC BRAKES, MINE HAS REAR DRUM BRAKES THEY ARE FINE, THEY COOL DOWN AND UNLOCK! WHAT IS GOING ON?? i have had to put 2 rotors on it recently because they broke around the center lugs! Any advise my friends?? thanks oldranger its a 1999 4.6 v8!!
Could be a few things.
Your front calipers could be seized.
Did you recently top up your master cylinder? Did you use the correct brake fluid? I ask because when I was a young lad I put power steering fluid in my brake master once (the bottles looked the same) and it did the exact same thing as you described until I replaced the brake master and flushed the system.

I have a late build '99 with four disc brakes.
Front caliper seized and the wheel got real hot, my truck also pulled when braking.
I replaced both front calipers but, it seems strange that both of yours would seize at the same time.
Might be something else.

My neighbor a couple decades ago asked me to come over and help diagnose his F150 front brakes seizing, both of them. He had just replaced the master cylinder and he got a bad one. Replacing it again fixed the problem. If both are seizing, it has to be something common to both. That leaves the proportioning valve or master cylinder. It could be that both calipers are bad but that is not as likely that both would start sticking at the same time.
F150 1999 brakes locking up!
Thank everyone for their responses to my brake problem, I did also have to fix a rotten piece of brake line, but it was doing this before that happen, used 3 dot fluid, bled brakes well, as I said they have gotten so hot to melt the front rotors into that's locked, The truck has sit for along time I don't run it much , maybe the pistons on the calipers need greased! Someone said it could be contaminated brake fluid? I plan to put new calipers, slide bolts, flush all the old brake fluid and replace with 4 dot if that does not do it I will try the master cyclinder!! Keep the suggestions coming friends I THANK YOU SO MUCH!!OLDRANGER
