Exhaust system help & advice please

Hello I'm Cole and I have a 99 f150 triton 4.6 4x4 with a handful of performance upgrades, it currently has factory exhaust manifolds, factory cats, and about 3ft of tail pipe past that point lol its loud and obnoxious, it has true duals tho so that's a step in the right direction. How can I give this thing the best growl without spending a literal fortune. What size exhaust ?? Is 2.5" duals to large ?? Which is louder, 1 single muffler with dual in dual out or 2 separate mufflers ?? Thank you sincerely in advance !!!

Welcome Cole

Personal taste in exhaust sound is very subjective thing. What one thinks is too loud another would think is just right... & etc. I would suggest surfing through youtube videos with you same year of truck, only use some nicer headphones while doing so the sound quality is as good as it can be on your end. Sadly some sound quality just cant be improved on because of how it was originally recorded. All in all you should get a better sense/idea of which way to go.

Seems like your wanting something a bit more...controlled, for lack of better description, when cruising down the road, but "wakes up" if you tap the throttle and let others know you are there.

Your biggest issues is going to be cost....As you say you want to stay as economical as you can. Then going with a short (12-14") straight flow through muffler is probably going to be your route of choice.

There is a section just for exhaust ,curious if you have found it yet? It is very informative & probably offer more then I can in this reply.
