4.6 Ext Cab Shortbox, 130 amp, lower brush worn out (charging light came on, barely made it home), but also appears lower copper ring worn out, looks burnt. In fact both rings have significant grooving. Anybody have good luck with the rebuild kit (regulator, brushes, bearings, copper rings)? Rebuild videos out there, and it looks doable, but is it worth it?

 

Decided to replace, rebuild guy didn't recommend rebuild on F150 alternator, and he gave me best price in town on a new one. But I'll probably order the $30 rebuild kit and try and rebuild in my spare time.

 

I have a rebuild kit for my 02 alternator. I've been planning to do a preemptive rebuild. At 135k I suspect the brushes are about worn out.
