draining out bad gas

My 1998 F-250 has been sitting for about a year and a half now while I rebuild the engine. I'm fairly certain that, by now, the gas is probably bad.

All the service manual says is to remove the evaporator emission valve and siphon the gas out from there. As near as I can tell, there is no way to access that without dropping the whole tank, which just seems silly.

I tried to get a siphon down the gas fill tube, but it has too many turns and too much resistance.

Any recommendations on the easiest way to get the gas out of the tank?

Thanks,
Steve

Lift the bed or drop the tank.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. Nothing I do is ever easy.

I have no idea what lifting the bed entails, or how heavy the bed is.

Time to RTFM some more and check Youtube.

Thanks for the help glc.

So the engine is out of the truck?

Aim the fuel line in a bucket and energize the fuel pump.

I see from your other thread that the engine is not out, but since you have the heads off, I'd still put a bucket or gas can in the valley and energize the fuel pump.

Might be just as easy to pull the fuel filter and put the bucket back there.

That still won't get all the crap out of the bottom of the tank - I'd do it right and drop the tank and get it cleaned.
