1997 wont turn over

ok so here it is.. ive got a 97 2wd with a 4.6. about a day before the truck wouldn't start the cruise control quit working. then i shut it off and it would not start. had it towed, and he said it was the starter. sure enough starter was bad replaced the starter and the motor will not crank over. i cleaned the grounds and reconnected all the wires. tried jumping the solenoid on the firewal. still wouldn't go. i thought maybe it needed a little jump... still nothing but now i get the rapid clicking of a pooped out battery. im at a loss of what to do any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciate! !!

Pull the battery, take it to the parts store, get it charged and tested. While the battery is out, remove and clean all connections.

If you think its the compressor (or any other driven component/pulley), just pop the belt off for a test. Lot easier than pulling the plugs.

I'm a tad confused, it "sounds" like it wants to turn over? Does the motor turn but not start, if so it could be a whole different set of issues.

the motor does NOT turn over you can hear the starter kick in and it sounds like it turns maybe an eighth of an inch but just wont go.. in other words it wants to but wont... guess you could say its constipated lol

If you can turn the motor by hand then I would think maybe the starter you put in isn't doing the job. It wouldn't be the first time that a re-man part was bad out of the box.

You didn't het it real hot or run it low on oil, did you?

Could also be a bad cable too.
