No idea what happened, but I was driving down the highway. All of a sudden my engine started making this loud tapping/cracking noise and my acceleration was very weak. Noticed a lot of hesitation, hardly any acceleration, smell of gas and right before I got home it threw a flashing CEL. The CEL's read P0306, P0308, P0174 and P1000. Any idea what to check for first? Thanks!
I did some searching around the engine and notice one thing, which is probably the problem, but I'm not sure exactly what it is. It's suppose to go down into that hole, i think the reason it came off was because the plastic piece around it usually is bolted down, but it broke as you can see.
So i did some searching around the engine and found this thing was not plugged into this little hole. I'm guessing the season it came out was because the plastic piece around it broke which is suppose to be screwed down. Does any one know what it is?

If you have not done so yet, open the hood and look at the fuel injection rail and plug area on the driver side to see what the conditions are.
Cylinder 6 is second from the front, cylinder 8 is the last one back.
If you smell gas, an injector or fuel rail or feed lines has been torn loose from the cause of the 306 and 308 codes.
The 174 may or may not be part of the total problem because the code is for a different cause but still may be related to the physical damage.
Code 1000 will clear when all the damage has been repaired.
Good luck.
A loose plug was probably ejected. Did it spit out the plug?
It did just that. I was going to ask next, isn't there suppose to be a plug there? Where it went I don't know. So did it spit the plug because of the broken plastic mounting bracket on the ignition cool? This is cylinder 6 by the way, number 8 looked fine from what I saw.
Please think a little.
You have codes for cylinder 6 and 8.
You cannot have a 6 cylinder motor with those codes set.
Your info says 5.4L. They are not 6 cylinder.
Count the coils from front to rear each side. There are 4 each side.
A spark plug has blown out of it's threaded hole in the head and pushed/ blown the coil out and done other damage.
When this happens under thousands of pounds combustion pressure, something has to give.
Likely you need to have one or both plug hole threads repaired.
You need the services of a shop that knows how to do the repair properly.
Labor, plugs, coils and any other damage to the fuel system and near by hardware.
Find a shop that uses Timesert or Lock N Stitch and bring it in. Have ALL the plugs torqued to 28 ft/lb, replace any blown ones, have the blown holes repaired, and replace damaged coils. If the shop doesn't use one of those 2 insert systems, go elsewhere.

What!? I never said I had a 6 cylinder engine, i said the one that has the spark plug blown out of it is cylinder 6. As far as I can tell ignition coil #8 is on and screwed down. When I have some time i can rip it apart so i can see cylinder #8 coil more clearly.
