Crusie control switches light up?

Okay, call me old man and memory loss or whatever..

I have owned my 2000 F150 since new in 99. Just replaced the steering wheel with a new OEM version since the sun took its toll on the top of my old one. In taking it all apart I found my clockspring case cover cracked in two and the steering wheel was only thing holding it together. I replaced that too.

I drove home tonight and went to use my cruise and for the life of me cant remember if the buttons in the steering wheel lit up or not for the on/off set, resume and etc. Do they? If they do I need to take airbag back out and investigate the connectors or other to check. Cruise works fine regardless and dash cruise ligh comes on as normal.

I`m thinking they did not but really am not sure. Hardly ever drive it at night

Thanks guys.

I just went out and checked my 2003 - they do light up, and are controlled by the dash light dimmer.

Thanks guys for checking. Looks like I may need to check plug ins at the clockspring and find the fault hopefully. If not I may have to return for another and try as it was bought locally.

Appreciate the help as it been a long time since I drove it at night to remember. Figured they must as a safety feature alone but wanted to check.

you can also try swapping your old switches onto the new steering wheel (assuming it didnt go straight in the trash)

I bought a new OEM wheel that didn't come with new switches so I had to swap my old ones to new wheel. Planning on tearing the assembly back apart this weekend and checking cruise connector at wheel for power on dash illumination.

Wife claims she never remembers them lighting up either so we shall see what I find.

Thanks again for the replies.

EDITED 4/23 : Pin out to light blue/red wire in connector for illumination had 12V so its not wiring up through clock spring. Went to LKQ right up the road and pulled a set of cruise switches from a 2002 for $10.00 and hooked them up when I got home and had lights. I guess over time the 3 tiny lights either burned out one by one or circuit through the switches never completed a circuit for the lights. I pulled all the little green covers off the bulbs in old switches and all the bulbs looked to be intact and not browned out at all. Swapped the dirty covers off the junkyard ones with mine that are much cleaner and popped them all back in.
So have lighting back in my cruise switches. Thanks for all the checking of personal trucks to help me out.
