Built vs Bought

OK F150 Gurus, I'm coming to you with my dilemmas. I have a 2002 SCrew 2wd 5.4L. I love my truck, but honestly I want a Harley F150. Or at least everything that is the HD/Lightning trucks. I can either build my SCrew into the truck I want (Supercharged, four-linked, slight drop) or sell it and try to find a HD. There are a couple things though.
1- I need the seating for 6, not the Harley's cool 2+2 seating
2- Harleys are still $10-20K
3- I already have my truck and I can chip away at upgrades easier than drop huge money on a different truck.
4- My truck has 243K miles and runs strong with a new transmission and 3.55LS gears.
I think I have about $4K into my truck for purchase price and maintenance. What to do, what to do.

Still probably cheaper to buy the harley version. But you'd have more fun doing it yourself.

Build it!! This is why....
#1) you love your truck, you know at least some of it's history. Buying another truck means you'll be starting all over with no idea of what you have.
#2) if you buy a used HD or whatever you will have the overall look you want but with old worn out parts. If you build your truck you can overhaul each major system as you come to it, don't just stick drop springs and shackles on it, replace all the old worn out parts while your in there!
#3) pride and uniqueness, you can be proud of the work you've done and you won't have a hard time finding it in a crowded parking lot! It will be YOUR TRUCK!

Am I going to be kicking myself years down the road because instead of having a possibly collectable / desirable Harley Davidson F150, I have a normal SuperCrew Lariat with a swapped supercharger? I mean, what if instead of buying a Camaro SS in the 70's when they were cheap(ish), you bought an SS clone. One would be worth a lot nowadays, and one not so much.

I guess you have a valid point there, although it's never been a consideration of mine because I drive the snot outta all my vehicles (my '04 Screw has 230k miles on it). So you need to figure out if you want a daily driver or something to park in a barn and forget about. Imo, drive what you want now and enjoy it.

Build it. You can make it exactly how you want it and the pride of doing it.
The trucks will never be worth more then what they were brand new. To many of them
built. I've customized mine and it was recently appraised for far more then my friends
stock harley and it looks better, just not as fast...for now.

01 GT F150, congratulations. I've certainly noticed your truck on here before. I like your cowl hood and tonneau cover. I basically want a supercrew Lightning. The stock Harley is close, but lacks that menacing look the Lightning gives.

Thanks. The hood is no longer made, and very few were ever made. The tonneau cover is
customized with a lightning tailgate spoiler. Molded and added to, to get it to work but worth it. Customizing yours makes it yours if that makes sense. Think of it as a resto mod most people do with the older cars anyway. Anyone that knows there way around will notice all the hard work that goes into doing a custom.

You can go find a built Harley for close to book

But not knowing what was done without documentation would be "iffy"

Anytime one builds or mods a truck there's always a possibility or chance that the truck might have to be sold for less than the total amount of mods on the truck

If Yer planning on supercharging you'd be one step ahead with a bone stock 2002+2003 Harley......

The swap parts for supercharging a stock f150 with an eaton are still out there but they're becoming fewer and harder to find and also the prices are getting higher along with oem stock parts getting discontinued

Yer choice and Yer money
