It's strong, will jump over an inch - and I have swapped coils with some of my excessive inventory of leftovers.

No compression on the cylinder I repaired.

EDIT: LOW compression on #7 at idle, but pumps up fine above 2000 RPM or so.

I made this awesome adapter - and it was too long for #4, so I made a shorter version.

How is the compression on #4? Did you check the compression with the engine running?

4 is good - 80 PSI. Yes, I had the engine running. I know 80 PSI is low, but I also know my adapter isn't perfect and I expected low readings. Other cylinders were in the same range with the exception of 3 which was 30 at idle and 120 at ~2000. I guess my ears aren't as in tune as they used to be, because I still can't hear a difference at idle when I pull the injector plug for #4 - which is a chore on the Expy with all the extra heater hoses.

If those readings are accurate or close to, you might as well chuck that engine.

Btw, - 140 is low lol. In fact, the lowest reading on any chart I've seen is around 100 psi, and that cylinder wouldn't fire at that PSI. So yea, somethings not right or leaking pretty bad.

Yea, that tool looks it could leak profusely lol. It must be, common you can do better than that lol. Use locktite or tap on the threads. You should able to make a great little extender. Don't you have some sort of little welder in the garage ?

Common over, we can make something up in a jiffy.

Oh yes... I know the readings are low, but the engine has plenty of power - feels a little faster than my previous 2001 Expedition. No, the adapter I made isn't just glued together I removed the ceramic from an old plug, then tapped 1/4" NPT into it's carcass. The other side of the tool is tapped internally with 10x1.00 for the brass fitting that came with tool. Most of the leak comes from the spark plug seat.

Yes, I have a welder. OK, that's not true I have 3 welders.

Who said anything about glue ? Well whatever.

Of course I could see where it leaks for sure, - right at the plug. Why didn't you use a tapered seat plug ? Good Grief lol.

Well paint it or something I guess, - it looks like a feeble attempt at something.

It's hard to believe that engine feels more powerful then your last expedition. Was that running on 7 cylinders as well ?

If your tool is leaking you really don't know what the compression is due to the contortions you have to get into to check these hard to get to plug holes.

Keep us informed. I can't wait for the next update!

I took it for a long drive last night to complete the OBD readiness cycle to run it through smog and it got worse. I think maybe a chunk of the original helicoil repair fell into the cylinder. By the time I got home it had thrown a code for #7 misfire and the plug is covered in oil.

Patrick, you going to have to explain that one in the near future, - I'll hold you to it lol. I'd love to finish the truck off with a 3V V10. If you could pull that off, I'd shine your shoes for week!

Sorry to hear the 5.4 is done. What to do now? ?????? Maybe a donor 5.4? Of course you have experience installing V10's. A 3V V10 would be exciting for sure! Keep us updated!

I bet you have a chiped valve. Pull the head and check it out. Probably just need a valve.
