2001 F-150 won't start -- question about fuel system
I agree with what these guys are saying. When you turn the key on, you will hear clicking of relays and stuff, but you should hear a faint (easier to hear if you leave your door open) "WHIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRM" for about 1-2 seconds and it goes out. Get someone to turn the key while you put your ear near the gas tank/front tire area. It'll be very pronounced then.
I figure it's good form to report the results of a repair. I took JBrew's advice and decided not to test the relays. Took it to a mechanic. They identified it as the fuel pump and replaced it, and it works fine now.
The odd thing is it started right up the morning I took it to the mechanic, but of course I knew I was being suckered.
Also thanks for the info about the premium fuel.. I'll go back to 87 octane.
