Cruise Control Not Working

Background: I have a 1999 F-150 with 217,000 miles. The brake lights quit working and I replaced the brake light switch and now they work. However, now the cruise control does not work. I looked at all the threads that I could find and checked fuses and everything is okay. The cruise worked fine before I replaced the brake light switch on the brake pedal.

Did I mess something up. I have not checked the CC valve on the brake booster as of yet, will do that tonight when I get home. Any other ideas? Could it be a bad switch? The switch came from Auto parts store vs. a dealer, could that be the issue?

Check out the switch you used.
The brake switch is used to kick off the CC once set as a normal safety while driving. It closes a circuit applying 12 volts to the CC.
At the same time the master cylinder pressure switch 'opens' power to the CC as a double safety. These are separate circuits to the CC.
Do a CC test from the steering wheel by following the test sequence exactly as it is described and note the results.
You have to see the trouble doing the test.
Good luck.

If you are talking about the one mentioned in other post, my dash does not have a cc light. Do you think I got a bad brake light switch? I saw in one post somewhere that someone had to replace their switch twice. Similar problem as mine regarding cc quit after changing the BL switch.

Re check the brake switch adjustment to be sure is not operated a small amount that might send 12 volts to the CC keeping it from working.
Good luck.

Did you have recall performed on cruise control module? Just did mine today. It gets break fluid leaked into it on master cylinder. My first problem was no cruise control. Then # 15 fuse blew not allowing it to shift out of park. It can also be a fire hazard.

Replaced the brake light switch today and it is working now. Must have been a bad switch. Thanks for the input and help. This one seemed to be tighter on the brake post. Not sure if that was the difference or not. Just happy to have brake lights and cruise control back.

Notasinger, I have a '97 F150, and just had the same problem; new brake switch did nothing. On closer inspection, I discovered that one of the wires on the female connector that plugs onto the brake switch had broken off right inside the plug. If you have trouble again any time soon, I'd check that. (I just cut the other wire, took the plug apart, and put a new wire in, then reinstalled it, and it was fixed-- you can get a new plug online for only about 8 bucks, but it was going to take 2 weeks(!!!) to reach me, so...no way).
Anyhoo, just a thought, for you or anyone else who happens to read this...
