2002 F150 4.6- how do i know if my power steering pulley has gone bad?

I replaced my tensioner pulley on my 2002 Ford F150 4.6 and i installed belt back on and it tore a rib off an edge. Everything was put on tight and do not see why it tore, i am thinking it could be the power steering pulley but not sure. How would i know if it needs replacing. I can move it slightly back and forth ? is that normal for that pulley? Would appreciate some feedback thanks

The power steering pulley usually does not fail itself. Does it have obvious damage? if not then the actual pulley is ok. Did you replace the idler pulley? Or perhaps your power steering pump itself is bad.

Belt may have tore if you did not have the belt ribs lined up when you installed it.

The P.s. pulley doesn't appear damaged. i will try it once again and hope not to ruin another one. Do you think i could replace it if it has warranty at auto parts store? or would it void it.
