start interlock switch?

Having issues with a no-start on a 97 w/ auto tranny. Have to keep messing with the position of the shift lever to get it so the starter will engage. Is there a switch in the column someplace that could be causing this? I assume it is a safety thing to be sure the truck is in Park before allowing it to start.

There is lever on the bottom of the column that operates the cable to the transmission.
On the transmission is the position switch.
If the lever on the column is loose the cable will put the transmission switch out of position and open the start circuit.
Check it out.
Good luck.

There are torx bolts in the linkage on the column that come loose usually tightening them cures this problem.

Thanks, just getting back to this, I'll check the linkage on the column, something probably loosened up.

Thanks again, the loose torx fasteners were the problem.
