Wheel Hub Seal
Wheel Hub Seal
I am planning to replace the driver’s side wheel hub assembly on my 03 F150 4x4 and had a question on the seal. I ordered the motorcraft BRS-54 seal that was listed by others (along with Hub) from RockAuto, as the last time no parts dealer knew about or had that seal I was looking for on the passenger side.
Regarding the seal removal and replacement, I recall that the axle shaft? did not completely come out of the hub housing anyway, so I wasn't sure how to replace the seal anyway. Will I have to remove the lower bearing or the axle to replace the seal? I ended up just cleaning up and regreasing the passenger side seal.

I don't remember replacing any seals when I did new hub assemblies. I just cleaned them well, and greased them. Yes, the splined axle shaft can slide out of the hub. I left my spindle attached...
Thanks for the pic, as I recall mine looked similar, and just seemed too tight to get axle to slide out to be able to insert the seal. And I will look for a video as well. Supposed to finally get above 0 this week, so time to get ready for the job. Parts arrived three weeks ago.
Final update, changed over a few hours, no significant remove or install issues. Cleaned out existing seal, left it in, and regreased. Axle would not slide out. Minor issue, new mount for ASB to spindle thicker, so old bolt too short now, have to find a replacement. Test drive, and the hum noise is gone
