New Engine Mounts!

Glad to be back on the forums!

Changed out my motor mounts and transmission mount 2002 extended cab 4wd 4.6 with 4r70w. Initial symptoms that lead me to believe they were worn:

-Upper intake manifold rubbing firewall Insulation
-Floor transfer case shifter moving abnormally
-Driveline "jump/clunk"

After noticing these things, got to looking at the motor mounts and noticed some cracking. Also, transmission mount was pretty worn as well.
A trip to Auto Zone, some $$, skinned knuckles, some profane words, broken wrench, and a fair amount of time, they were changed out. FYI: the driver's side motor mount on the 4.6 4WD is quite a booger. clearance issues. Passenger side was fairly easy. Transmission mount required me to drop the cross-member to get that one out. I sure hope any of you members ever have to experience this hassle. That Driver's side mount also yielded a case of "trigger finger" when i was torquing down some bolts

Can you better describe the "driveline 'jump/clunk'"? Mine does that sometimes, but I always just thought it was a rough shift.

driveline clunk

The Driveline "clunk" could best be described as what sounds like a bad u-joint or driveshaft slip yoke that needs lube. I know the slip yoke on mine made a clunk/thud when it needed lube. Also you could feel the whole engine/transmission shake when you put the truck into gear, and when accelerating or braking, as odd as that sounds.
Hope that helps out, as I am a stickler for truck making sounds that I don't like. I will persist in finding out what makes a noise that shouldn't be there. I had a squeak that drove me crazy once- ended up being the rubber gaskets that are where the tailgate latches meet the bed rail. Sprayed them with silicone lube to quiet that down.

New mounts feel good don't they?

Both sides are rough with a V10 because the engine won't go as high before the intake hits the firewall.
