too much oil in my 1999F150
hello all, I am new here, i have a question.
i put too much oil in my truck and didn't notice it for awhile, the truck started to shake, i spent over 600$ to get new plugs and coils as that is what they said the problem was, when i checked the oil (after the check engine light came on) i seen that they put way too much oil in it. is this something that i can just change the oil and the truck will work ok again or is this just the start of my problems.

If the oil level is the problem, maybe reducing the level or changing it will work. It could have splashed on the cylinders so bad it could have fouled the plugs or cats? I don't know. You have to get some oil out, so go ahead and do that and see.
no the oil doesn't smell of gas, and i am not loosing any coolant, fingers crossed that it will work it self out when i change the oil. thanks for all your help

Can you better define "too much oil"?
Too much oil will most likely not trigger anything that'll give you a check engine light since it's a purely mechanical action. Also, (and the main take-away here) the only time an engine has 'too much oil' in it is when the level is high enough that the crankshaft is splashing around in the oil which can cause it to foam up. The oil pump will not pump air (the foaming oil) and thus...well...you get the rest of the picture. Even though way up high on the dipstick may still not put you in this situation, there's no way to tell.
First thing you should absolutely do is drain some oil to a normal spot on the dipstick and see what happens.

Yeah, a little extra oil shouldn't hurt. Too much and as mentioned it can foam and (I have actually seen this in person) if it's WAY overfilled it will actually prevent the engine from revving properly because it'll almost hydrolock the engine.
Something sounds odd about the issue you're having.

To much oil in these (modular)engines will generate a vibration. However I am with Tasca on the this in regards to things seem odd, they don't add up to me. Your information seems inconsistent particularly the dealer adding to much oil after you already determined there was to much oil in the engine before you took it in??
As everyone above said. A little over isnt going to do anything. 1 to 2 qt's over I would think would place a drag on the crank shaft and possiable find its way into the cc.
I run 1.5 over spec personally. I also have a engine oil cooler and a dedicated engine oil cooler for a supercharger.

My 02 5.4 when full checks a half qt. low. I added the extra pint a couple of times and it immediately disappeared. So, it was burned off most likely due to the crankshaft splashing it on the cylinder walls and burning it. So for my engine in particular, 6 qts is all it will take.
What's wrong with looking at the dip stick and giving the level.
In the cross hatch area is ok on an engine that has had a chance to fully drain back to the Pan.
Again what do you see as to much? Answer the question .
Good luck.
