Thanks glc. Nit sure this is something I can fix myself but at least I know where to look around. I pretty much figured it wasn't the gas cap. Nothing in my life is ever that simple. ..lol

Don't let anyone try to sell you a new O2 sensor. The one you have is doing its job and reporting the lean condition. In combination with other sensors, the fuel/air map is not what it's supposed to be, there is air entering the system after the mass airflow sensor in the intake tube, or there is an exhaust leak before the sensor.

Do you have a stock air filter, or do you have an oiled element, such as a K&N? Oiled filters can foul the MAF sensor and it may need cleaning or replacement. This can possibly cause a lean reading.

I do have a K and N air filter! I need to get a service manual for my truck. The most I have ever done so far is change my oil and my brake pads both front and rear. But even if I wind up not being able to fix it myself at least I can go in knowing what I need and more importantly what I DON'T need. Thanks so much.

I would strongly suggest you remove the K&N and replace it with a standard paper filter - and clean the MAF sensor. A K&N does not filter well, especially when it's left dry.

Will do. I use K & N filters on my Ninja with no problems. But they are also a lot cheaper for my Ninja...

If you have an exhaust leak serious enough to trip a lean code, you would definitely be able to hear it.

Exhaust manifold looks like this:

It bolts to the cylinder head and the exhaust pipe connects to it.

I was watching a You tube video on how to replace it and wanted to make sure I was looking at the right thing, I could do it, but it would not be easy. And I don't hear any abnormal sounds when it is running. I was poking around last night, I need to locate where my MAF sensor is. Several pics on the internet show it inside the airbox thing or behind it. I don't have a service manual yet. And the pvc at the elbow looks good but I just glanced at it. Need to take a good hard look.

Here ya go:

BTW - you do realize that K&N is no better a filter on yer bike than it is on yer truck - both don't filter worth a coon-poo .... at least yer bike does not have a MAF to foul (?).

I'd use factory elements - K&N's perf claims are hogwash too . Just sayin'...

AWESOME MGD!! Thanks for the link. I have always used K & N because that is the filter the guys at the shop give me when its time to change my oil. My Bike had a K & N air filter when I bought it about a year ago, same for my truck. So I have no problem switching, thanks for the heads up. Bike is due for an oil change as we speak.

You need to physically remove the PCV elbow to inspect it. Just glancing at it isn't good enough.

I cleaned the MAF. But the light is still on. Glc can you post a picture of the pvc elbow. I have pretty good idea but the visuals you guys give me have been enourmously helpful.
