4 hi humming noise normal?

K so I got a 97 f150 with the 4.6, the snow was comming down pretty good so I figured I'd test the 4x4 and noticed some slight humming up front while accelerating was wondering if this is normal for the f150's or not, I've driven Chevys and a lot of them seem to do it also but this is my first full size ford and was wondering if this was normal, it doesn't really sound to loud but almost sounds like I'm running an aggressive tire

Tires is what id say. If you have serious tires up front like mud tires,, you can get a hum,, as you stated. Might try and change out the front tires to a street kinda tire and see if it goes away,, the humming.

I don't have mud tires up front, just some good year wrangler silent armor, I guess from what my buddy said that it was normal

The humming is the transfer case. Normal.

Check your wheel bearings, could be bad and now that youre using your front wheels as drive wheels it will be more pronounced

Wheel bearings are fine I have no wiggle in the wheels up there, only does it when I'm coasting, I'm assuming it's just cause the axle up front is turning but idk

I'd change the T-case fluid, that stuff can break down fairly quick IMO. I recall the first time servicing mine, - no consistency, looked like black swamp water lol. I heard what your referring to before. The rear ends can do that as well.

Just service all that with GOOD stuff.
