Time Sert selection

Ok, I'm ready to get the time-sert installed.
Which one do I get and what size?

2002 Ford F150 4.6L

All you need is the 5553 kit. It's the correct size insert and the whole kit is designed just for the Triton motors. However, don't run out and buy one. Search around the forums here...there's a guy that runs a rental business that'll save you a fat ton of money!!

Well, for ****s and giggles I called Ford dealer and asked them about my blown out plug.
20min later I had it at the dealers and they fixed it for $236. I was out the door within an hour. They told me they made sure all other plugs were torqued at the right weigh.
I'm a Happy camper now.

Not to rain on your happy parade, but I don't know what they did, but they did not install any type of sleeve if you were "in and out" within an hour. They certainly didn't install a TimeSert. Guessing they either threw a heli-coil in it or you had enough threads they were barely able to get the plug to stay in. Time will tell...either way, you'll be finding out what they actually did...unfortunately.

heli-coil is what they did. They told me, they done many before and only 1 came back and it was on a contractor towing his bobcat around and doing heavy towing.
Finger crossed.

Sorry dude....only a matter of time. They're full of it. Good luck. And not to add inslut to injury but you just paid $2XX (I'll assume Canadian) for less than an hours labour for a $1.00 part and to stick your old spark plug back in?!?!

Undestand what your saying Galaxy.
Btw, I did get a new coil out of it as well.
I still have some faith in people. Lets hope the mechanic is one to be thrusted. He did come out after the work was done and pesonnally told me he had done these before and only had one come back. (Story above)
As for threads left, I had a scope and checked the hole before the dealer was in the picture and didn't see any threads. The plug would go in and stop at the nut part of it.
Now if it doesn't last I will certainly post and update.
Thanks fo the help...

I hope your helicoil lasts but there have been numerous posters show up here reporting that theirs did not. Timesert is the best way to go. They never blow out.

I def would have gone that route if not for the cost of getting the timesert kit. Even with Galaxy's offer to rent me the tool bringing in to Canada, border, USPS time/cost, and needing the truck next week, etc...
Lets hope it holds and if not, I'll have more time to do the job myself next time and bite the extra cost.

A Ford dealer is not supposed to use a helicoil - they are supposed to use a "Lock N Stitch" which is similar to a Timesert.

That's the tap size but has nothing to do with the TimeSert size he was inquiring about. Lot's more to a TimeSert than the tap!
