Swapping Rear Axle

I currently have a 3 55 88 XXXX and want to swap it with a rear axle that has a diff stamp of 3L55 88 XXXX.

I'm thinking this should be an easy swap, has anybody ever done this?

Are you swapping the whole rear axle assembly or just the center section?

I've been wanting to do the same. Have the same axle (3.55 gears, 8.8) and want limited slip. I heard it's easy if it's the same axle with the same gears just with an L between the 3 and 55. Also told I have make sure it will work with my brake system cause I have 4 wheel ABS. Gotta do more research.
Vehicles without limited slip being advertised as 2 wheel drive is an outrage.

Since you're going through all this trouble, see if you can find an axle with 3.73's!!!!

Yea, It's not limited slip to limited slip, I want to change out the whole axle so I don't have to mess around with the diff.

I don't want to get 3.73 because the front axle still would have a 3.55 ratio.

I also don't think my truck comes with ABS, because the brakes sure as hell lock up. lol

You have at least rear ABS, 4 wheel ABS was an option in 99 I believe.
