Best way to get power in a 4.6L?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to get some more overall power out of my 4.6. It's a 2002 supercrew F150 2wd. Everything on the motor is stock. I've been looking around and reading up and I still cannot come to a conclusion on what the best bang for my buck is. I can't force myself to believe the cold air intakes work the way the companies say they do, though it isn't out of the question. As of now, I'm looking at a BBK 75mm Throttle body from www.autoanything.com but I've heard that just gives you a quicker throttle response. Then I've also been thinking about an SCT Tuner or an EDGE power programmer, but I wouldn't have any idea which one would be best. Down the road I'm thinking about a TrickFlow Twisted Wedge top end kit. Which includes a cam set, Twisted Wedge 185cc heads, etc etc. I'll post the link to that at the bottom. I read an article on Hot Rod magazine's website about a 4.6 they got up to 350+ hp and torque with all factory internals. And it was a 98 model with the weaker rods. They added a set of PI heads and converted it to carbureted with an Edlebrock Victor Jr intake and an MSD 6-mod ignition to adjust timing. I'm in auto tech school and I've already helped build a 302 for a Cobra so I know how to build an engine, I just don't have the money or the place to do it at the moment, hence why I said down the road. So I'm done rambling on and on. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys!

Here's that link to the TrickFlow Top End kit

If you want a cold air intake, do the gotts mod (search on here for it), cost about 10 bucks in parts and has the same effect. Bigger throttle bodies or throttle body spacers on these motors in stock form will have just about no effect, they're basically an expensive paperweight until you go forced induction.

I'd say save up, get a tuner and a custom tune. It'll definitely help bring some life back into the motor.

Alright will do. What about re-gearing? 3.55 seems to be a little high for the weight of this truck. (6400 lbs). I thought about doing that, but don't want to go too low and start getting even worse highway mpg. I was thinking 3.73 but I'm not sure

Gotts mod, exhaust, custom tune, and 4.10 gears.

I've got straight pipes on it right now. I had a flowmaster and I like the straights better. I was looking at the Gotts just now. Does it have a filter at all? I'd be a little worried about it with no filter in it.

And which tuner/programmer is the better of the two? Edge or SCT?

The gotts uses the stock filter, it only replaces the section of tube that goes from the filter to the hole in the fender well, because that's the restricting part of the air flow.

As for gears what size tires do you have? Do you tow a lot? Do you do mostly city or highway driving? Gears won't give you more power but they'll help your off the line power and city mileage some.

For your year, the SCT. 5 Star Tuning is a good source.

I'm running 255/75/16 right now. But that'll change in the next 2 or 3 months. I believe I'm switching to 265/70/17. I tow with it probably 5 to 10 times a month. Just depends on what I'm doing. It's mostly city. But I'll pull around our 11 mile bypass here where I live. Around 60-65 on that. But mostly city and back roads through the country

Sweet. I'll check it out. Thanks!

As for supercharging it...I don't have the money, nor have I found one that will fit the 4.6 2v truck engine. I know the mustang had the same engine but from what I've read it's tuned differently. If you could provide a link to one that would fit I'll check it out and may consider it down the road

Do you have a link for that? I found the tuners on SCT's website but not one on 5 star tuning's site. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
