Motor oil additives and flusher
Motor oil additives and flusher
What's up guys, just about to do another oil change and had a question. I see that Ford seems to have quite a lot of things that are preferred for maintenance. Just wondering if there's an oil to stay away from, did Valvoline last time and it seemed good, also used lucas oil additive and it didn't seem to do much. Also wanna do maybe a seafoam addition to the motor oil before changing oil. Just looking for opinions on what I should do exactly and what works best for these 5.4L's. Thanks!
Ok sounds good. I'll try and locate some of them and do an oil change here pretty soon. My current oil filter is leaking a decent amount for some reason, probably leaked out a quart and a half over the past 2500 miles. heard that maybe I left the last filters gasket on but I don't think I did...
Seafoam can dislodge / remove crud in the oil pan which can cause oil to leak more or cause crap to get stuck and cause problems. I would stay away from oil additives.
The oil off the shelf provides the perfect mix of additives, cleaners and what not. All you need to know is your blood type... Right?
There's enough phonies out there whom think they're smart enough for liquid engineering. They just loose in the end; -whether they admit it or not.
Be the correct part of that statistic.

I bought an old 79 Bronco with a worn, but reliable 140K mile 351M. I started swapping out tune up parts (plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor, water pump, etc.) and thought while I was at it, a good "engine flush" might help clean up the insides. After all the work was completed, the engine sounded different, a slight knock at idle and throughout RPM range. Well, it did clean up a lot of sludge, which accumulated in the oil pan, coated the pickup, caused some starvation issues.
I changed the oil and filter every thousand miles. I MAJOR lesson learned about engine flushes.....

Thanks for all of the replies... I'll stick to Motorcraft oil from now on. Do I have a question about what I should do about a tranny flush? Thinkin it may be cheaper to do my own but do I simply only have to get a mercon ATF and any tranny filter or is there something else I should get besides Castrol mercon v atf and a duralast tranny filter? I work at autozone now and can get my hands on quite a bit of stuff cheaper but don't know what exactly is recommended for that besides mercon.
Good clean oil is the best thing for MY engine. I get nervous putting anything else in there. Good clean oil I dont really know of any oil thats bad although I have persoal favorites and I do NOT purchase any FRAM product,, Motorcraft or better filters
