performance fix it tips and suggestions?
I'm trying to do everything I can small or big to help make my 98 f150 run smoother or better in any way I'm still learning a lot when it comes to the mechanics and how to fix and repair things but I know the basic things like brakes, oil changing, the common sense things of owning a vehicle. So any knowledge on what I can do to make it that much better is what I'm looking for any ideas?
Lots of things you can do but if your running lean figure that out first. How do you know your running lean are you getting a code? Are you running stock right now? You have a single overhead cam and only 2 valves per cylinder so this engine is not designed to be a performance engine without lots of mods that will be spendy . I have have tons of power now with my 98 4.6 but look at my list of mods below. Once of the most noticeable and mods is when I cut my 4 stock cats off and went to two magnaflow high cats . A lot of guys here do a Gotts mod to their air intake and seam to like it I myself have a K&N short air intake but most people on here dont care for K&N but I do well with mine. Underdrive pulley was cheap and simple as well.

First, make sure you've done a full tune-up, if you haven't already done so.
You can change your exhaust to long tube headers and hi flow cats in conjunction with a custom tune for a nice little power boost.
If you don't want to buy an intake, you can do the "gotts mod" to free up a little airflow as well.
If you're electrically inclined, you can install a set of e-fans to save a little fuel and reduce parasitic drag on the engine.
More involved modifications will start to push toward the $1,000 mark, so whatcha wanna do?
