Trans seal leak into transfer case
Hello all
I just found out that my seal between the to is leaking and was wondering if anyone has tried a liquid seal additive to soften the seal?
I have never had a problem B-4 and the only thing I did different was to not drive it for several months through winter.
I know this will most likely be a temporary fix but the time delay will help for now and save up the 350.00 to replace it, I just don't want to ruin my trans.

I wouldn't put anything like that in my transmission. Is it leaking externally? Replacing the seal should only cost a few bucks if you do it yourself.. just have to remove the transfer case I would think. shouldnt be that hard.
There isn't any contamination issue between the two because they both use the same fluid.
Only difference is volume.
Trans additive for seals, softens and expands the rubber material.
It takes about 300 miles to work. In a transfer case it may take longer due to how much it works as opposed to the transmission.
Thereafter don't let the truck set to long or the seal will shrink and leak again because it's already wore on the contact surface.
BTW, Mercon was the spec fluid but is no longer on the market.
Mercon V or equiv. is the replacement.

Just a clarification to this is that the fluid is going from the transmission (automatic) into the transfer case.
It was suggested that a breather on the trans may be stopped, however, I cannot see where the vent is due to close clearances although there is a hose that leads up towards the engine compartment. Not sure if its vacuum or a vent.
As far as taking out the transfer case to replace the seal between the two appears to be allot more than just separating the two, especially on my back but sure wish I could.
I'll just drive and closely watch to see if It'll hopefully correct itself.
