Air bag replacement

I am in the process of repairing front end damage from a collision in my '00 150 that deployed the air bags. I am obtaining used bags, but have no idea how to go about installing them. I have seen all the horror stories and warnings, and don't want to do it wrong.
Can anyone walk me through it or advise me where to get the necessary info? I am a retired mechanic with 40 years experience, but never delt with air bags. Thanks Gary

have you replaced the sensors? IF you plug in the airbags without doing the sensors they will just go off instantly.

thats actually not true at all. If the SRS warning light is on, the system is inactive/disabled

You do however likely need to replace the module, they generally are a one time use thing....

There's two plastic covers on the back of the steering wheel, that access bolts, I want to say 10mm, but i dont remember for sure

When I had to replace the steering wheel on a Dodge Dakota I had all I needed to do was unhook the battery and turn on the headlights to completely discharge the system. I would assume it is the same for the F150. I am sure one of the Ford gurus here can confirm.
