You could very well be correct but the way it's being said leads one to believe the pedal is already hard at that point. No problem here otherwise.
Something I fail to see a connection with, that makes no sense.
What is so hard about turning the dam key off and shifting to neutral to stop all this dangerous maneuvering once the throttle is recognized as stuck?
It's why there is AAA and other towing services.
Last time I saw a throttle stick was at the race track. The old experienced driver got killed from dumping the car over the wall on it's top going into a turn.
Good luck.

Pretty uncommon for the throttle to stick, so I imagine it is one of those "Freak out" kind of experiences, everybody reacts different. I had a friend that told me his mom would react to a skid by taking her hands off the steering wheel hold them in the air and scream!

Some people just aren't think quickers. lol

Thanks for all the replys. Just to clarify, I was always prepared to put the truck in neutral and turn it off at a moments notice. The only reason I kept going is because traffic was very light and I wanted to do as much troubleshooting as I could. The brakes never locked up and only became hot as a result of me riding them. I was able to start applying my brakes about 1/4 mile before the red light and the light turned green moments after I got stopped and the Ford dealership is less than a block away. Even though I fishtailed, it was at a relatively slow speed in a snowy parking lot. I was able to put it in neutral and turn it off and never came close to losing control of the truck. And once I did stop, I called a wrecker.

I'm thinking its something mechanical because I wasn't able to move the accelerator up or down and the car mat hadn't moved. I also agree with your analysis that the cruise control may not be a factor since it was disconnected. Also, I don't remember the seeing the cruise light on during the first incident but I can't say for sure it was off because I failed to look for it.

I would physically disconnect the cable from the cruise servo at the TB to completely rule that out - unless that's already been done.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll suggest that to my mechanic when I talk to him tomorrow.

The disconnect might be better if you do it at the throttle body. That way if it is a frayed cable it wont be able to hold the throttle open.

That's what I said - TB = throttle body.

I'm thinking its not the cruise but agree that is has to be eliminated. Any ideas on why the accelerator wouldn't go up or down?

The cable or throttle body was mechanically jammed. Might have been as simple as water got into the cable assembly and froze.
