Question 2003 2WD Clunk Bump Feel

I just picked up a 2WD regular cab with 104k. Truck rides and drives quite well, new shocks and brakes.

The problem I'm having is the clunk that I can feel, not hear, when the truck comes to a stop. Upon taking off, I can't feel it. Seems like it only appears when stopping. Years ago I had a 4by Cherokee with this problem and greasing the splines fixed it. If I'm correct though, this isn't necessary with a 2WD. Correct?

Your experienced input on my clunk is welcomed.

Inspect your brakes. Sounds like possibly weak or improperly installed pad retention springs.

Hmm, I'm familiar with that, but I don't think that's it. Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a look.

Well after much time researching, I found I indeed needed to grease the splines. I did so with a half tube of the motorcraft blue teflon grease and all is well. Hope this will help someone else.

If the clunk is felt through the steering wheel check the idler arm and pitman arms
