modding the fitty

I've got a stock 97 f150 lariat 4.6l reg cab long bed 4x4. I am looking to start upgrading and makeing modifications to it. The first steps im thinking of takeing is a bbk CAI paired with a bbk throttle body. I've been told a new MAF sensor is required when going to a CAI is this true or are there any other things I may need to make the new intake work correctly?

Throttle body's are no more than expensive paperweight, you'll see no gains on these motors with them besides the whistling sound.

As for cai's, search for the gotts mod on here, cost about ten bucks and an hour or so of work and has the same gains as pretty much all aftermarket ones. And you shouldn't need a new maf, just reset it by leaving the battery unhooked for like thirtyish minutes.

All that exhaust mods will do for you is make more noise. If that's what you want, go for it!

like said gotts mod. i have it and like it. The bbk, Is metal piping and will make you have higher intake air temps, making you lose power, the gotts mode is plastic, Witch will help you to keepthe intake temps down. The colder the air intake temp is the beter. I have even seen some people put dry ice in there air box at the track for better track times. I have not tryied that one.

Ok ill pick up the parts next weekend and give it a try but what about the exhaust? I wont get any power or mpg out of getting this done? Im honestly wanting it for looks and tone but thought there would actually be some for a performance or efficiency increase?

unfortunately, if you mod your exhaust, chances are its going to cost you. why? because your foot will always be in the throttle listening to it

gott's mod
throttle body cleaning
electric fans
change all filters
clean or replace fuel injectors
upgrade coil packs

Good luck bud

I will for sure try the mod with a replacement filter, I have never cleaned the throttle body will look in to that, not sure about adding any fans as the truck barely reaches 25% on the thermostat any way(runs pretty cool), filters will do, dont know much about injectors cant find any performance ones and have seen some better coil pack I will get when I buy some better plugs and wires

Generally on these trucks oem parts like motor craft are the best.
