Do yourself and your engine a favor, use the proper element for air filtration. Run a GOOD dry element. Your engine WILL last longer under normal conditions and you won't foul the MAF. Which equals consistent MPG's.

Agree - if you are driving on dusty roads the K&N lets a lot more fine dust through than a proper dry element.

It doesn't avg 17-18, that's just what I usually get on long highway trips. Avg with some highway and some city is around 14.
Mine has 189,000 on it now, at 168,000 I drove to NM and had a high of 19.5 and a low of 15.6. It also has a K&N CAI that was on when I bought it at 80,000 miles but not sure that helps anything. I had 20 mpg flat both ways going to OH a few years ago.

02 5.4 with 180'000 miles and gotts mod and drop in KN

i get 14 on the highway and 15.5 with a tail wind

running 305/60-18's with 18-9 rims
