Especially 4.6, super crew, 4x4 with 33's on stock gears. And I don't see how any of your mods are helping with fuel mileage.. Canned tunes on a CTS with headers, TB spacer and CAI... I can almost bet you lost mpg but gained a few hp.

How are you calculating your mileage?

I'd be willing to bet your averaging 14-17 on a good day.
Ok I kinda saw this coming. I should start by saying I bought the truck used 4 months ago. The mods I listed were on the truck when I bought besides the 33's and the cts. I am not sure if there are other mods on here or not. I just listed the ones I know of. As far as the 60/40 highway/city driving that is sort of a complicated situation. I actually do very little driving in the city however I live several miles out in the backwoods. I have several miles of driving on gravel/dirt roads under 40 mph, with both up and downhill driving in the mountains of PA. So I said it was 60/40 but it is more like 60 highway/10 city/ 30 gravel, backwoods mountain roads. As far as how I calculate mpg I base it on mile driven using a gps divided by gallons used. Also the truck has 103k on the clock. It has been babied its whole life and I dont have a heavy foot.

If it still has the original spark plugs, they are due for replacement.

Thanks guys for your input. To answer a few questions yes my truck is a 5.4, no they aren't the original plugs, however I changed them right before I sold it and I put the cheap autolite plugs in. Normally I don't have a problem using autolites, however in this situation I wish now that I have it back that I would have put the motorcrafts in to begin with. I will let you guys know if my mileage increases at all with the tune up ,but it sounds like to me I should be happy with what I am getting now.

I get around 10 mpg towing a #5000 TT from time to time.

I figure it's a 15 year old truck with almost a quarter of a million miles on it... No payments for the last 7+ years... Love it!

It's getting the same mpg's as it did when I got it in 2001 with 65,000 miles on it.

It costs more for gas when you drive a truck... But, it beats driving an econo box! At least for me it does..

Good luck!

Mitch
You catching up Mitch, - haven't been driving her as much as I should. 50 thou more to go. I was about where you are now, back in 08, -

That was the winter of 08. @ about 307,000 miles now.

Hey Jbrew.. Something to look forward to for sure! I'm putting on about 15,000 miles a year so it will still be awhile before I see 300k!

Thanks. Yea, it made it easy to keep an eye on. Well that and the fact the filter was just inside the wheel well lol.

2001 Screw 5.4 4x4 with Off Road pkg, 265/70-17's and 3.55 gears. I usually avg about 14. Have been as high as 20 on some road trips, but usually 17-18 highway.

2003 SCrew FX4 4.6L with 33" BFG tires and 3.73 gears, DiabloSport tune, custom si/do exhaust.

147k miles and I get 12.5 around town, 15 mixed, 18-19 highway. GPS mileage and diablosport-corrected mileage agree.

Be really careful with F150 mpg reports - they can vary wildly depending on tire size, type, and inflation. Calculated mpg may be up to 25% high or low - unless you can verify with GPS or your speedo is calibrated to your tires EXACTLY. For example, the diameter of my 33" tires varies by at least 5% depending on inflation alone, leading to false mpg measurements.

Mileage was definitely 1-2mpg worse with K/N intake. I sold that POS intake and its now back to stock with Gotts mod and silencer removed.

I have the exact same truck/specs and have never been better then 13. Same when new as now with 102,000 miles. If I averaged 17-18 that would be heaven.

I am averaging between 12-15mpg. My daily commute is 64.3 miles round trip. I can usually get right at 315 to 325 miles out of a full tank. The only mod I have is a K&N drop-in filter. 10 miles of my daily drive is gravel, so considering that, I guess my mpg's aren't too terrible?
