Cummins swap???

Has anyone seen a cummins in a '97-'03 F150. I'm considering doing this swap over rebuilding my 5.4 when the time comes. I'm at 185000 right now so I don't know how long that will be. At 185000 she still runs like a champ with no leaks or smoke. I figured a 12 or 24 valve swap would be cool.

Look up farm boy fabrications. They did it to a 97-98

Pretty sure there's kits online that include pretty much everything you need to just bolt one in, don't remember the website off the top of my head though.

fyi you'll be waiting for a bit if it still runs good now. The modular motors run forever if maintained properly. Ive heard of this swap, but never seen one.

You are talking practicallity to someone who lifted thier 2wd 10.5". I'm wanting the extra torque for better gas mileage.

While that seems true I was just tossing ideas around in my head for the just in case. When I bought my truck the tranny went out at 42,000. If the one I have now ever goes then I won't be rebuilding. I'm about to start searching for a donor for my '87 dually crewcab.

How much does a Cummins weigh? #1100 would be my guess.. What's a 5.4 weigh? #600. Plus the HD trans you'll need for the Cummins...

Gonna need to beef up the front end for sure.. Gonna eat into the majority of your trucks payload too..

Looking to do this to get good mpg's out of your F150?? Well, the Cummins will probably do that, but what's it gonna cost to do that swap? I have no idea, but if it's something you wish to do, go for it!

Good luck and keep a log of the progress!

Mitch

I did a bunch of "looking" at this same swap...

#1 emissions issues

#2 weight of the cummins

#3 4r100 swap since the ol' 4r70 wouldn't like it and most of you don't like aftermarket parts or even upgrades

#4 gas mileage I'd honestly hope you wouldn't be using unleaded gasoline in a cummins

#5 figure about 10-12 grand for a non-cobbled swap

#6 the guys at fordcummins.com in Montana will push the 4bt swap at you and the end of the day just add boost to your 5.4 and save the hassle and cost for no better performance

#1 We don't have emissions testing

#2 Its only about 400lbs. If they mount one in a Toyota Tacoma then surely an F150 could surrport the wieght.

#3 I was going to buy a running Dodge for the swap.

#4 You got me.

#5 I can get a really nice running Dodge for around 5k.

International makes a 4.5l diesel engine they put in some ford moving trucks like 09-11..or 04-08 i cant remember....Lots of torque and says it will fit comfortably under any f150 hood.... this would be awesome and more ideal i think

you still can't legally install an older engine in a newer vehicle

alrighty then, if you belive that then I've got some land in Red Square for sale...

the cummins dry without accessories is about 650lbs more than a 5.4

you'd consider a dodge transmission?? not only are they unreliable, BUT now you've got cab modifications, shifter issues, custom driveshaft, etc...
