Suspension will keep you from high centering as much on the frame, but it can be a lot more expensive. Body lifts are a lot cheaper, especially if you can install yourself, but they'll leave your frame where it was so you can still bottom out on that, and you'll be relying basically just on the bigger tires to give you more clearance. So it basically will come down to what your budget is, how high you want to go, and tire size you want to run.

what do you classify as off-roading? mudding or hammering over rocks. i run 285's on a stock ride height and it usually goes where ever i want it to. if you run where there is alot of jolting and hammering i would say go suspension, but if you just rip around in a couple mud puddles and think the lift looks cool just throw in a body.
or you bust the bank and do a small suspension and a body lift

i have 315-70-17 on my truck with just a body lift, and cranked torsion bars, i had to trim the bumper valance a little but its not noticable and the truck looks great at minimal cost. I have gone through mud pits and up rocky mountains no problems.

Just remember that with suspension lifts, maintenance becomes more important. Things like ball joints, tie rods, and especially the idler arm have a tendency to up and quit much sooner than they did on the stock setup.

That's more because of the added stress from tire size. Most standard suspension lifts keep stock angles which keeps wear pretty much at how fast stock parts wear.
