I was just thinking about this Pat. If I ever add boost or just want more gauges I will be doing the bubble.

Jay I would just get the programmer but I really like the look of the gauges and I dont want the programmer to be hooked up all the time.

Yup sorry. Forgot temp sensor was on block even for aftermarket.

What are more of the pros v cons on mechanical gauges? Also how difficult are they to install? Ive narrowed it down to either autometer phantoms or c2s.

Pros…

-Full sweep face looks cooler!
-(used to be) more accurate reading
-cheaper (I think)

Cons…

-difficult to install (relatively speaking; compared to electric)

Mechanical has the capilary tube and sensor hooked up and you can't remove it for install. You gotta thread that big sensor head thru the dash/firewall and not kink the tube. Also, it's a fixed length and can't be lengthend or shortened, so you get what you get there.

I went with simple 90* sweep electric water and trans in a dual pod on the piller and wiring it up was simple.

I tapped into the trans output line up front, before it goes into the rad. I tapped into the hose from the engine to the heater cores inlet.

You don't get the plumbing or additional wiring with most gauges. Mine didn't at any rate... Got all that stuff at the local Home Improvement store.

I've had my gauges in for around 10 years now and they have been trouble free and tells me all I need to know.

I used Glow Gauges and they have package deals on eBay and on their website. I used three: Oil Pressure; coolant temp and transmission oil temp. Looks good. For some reason cannot upload the picture.
