A/C Compressor Froze up
A/C Compressor Froze up
Driving yesterday back from Walmart to my dorm and stopped at a light and my truck just died. Tried starting and nothing. Lucky for me I had some friends to help push it out of the intersection and off to the side of the road.
After trying everything that I and my dad could think of we replaced the battery and the engine cranked over and started, but there was a noise that sounded like a scream from a person that was getting killed. Then the engine died with smoke pouring out and the smell of rubber. Tried it again and well my belt melted. Turned out that my a/c compressor finally froze up after 2 months of it making noise. Took it to the shop and $1000 later it is running again.
What a great way to spend my Wednesday night!

Ouch. I had my WHOLE A/C system replaced for $580. $300 for parts (new compressor, accumulator, condenser and orifice tube) and $280 for labor including vac and recharge. My truck will blow 38*F all day every day in the middle of downtown rush hour traffic at a stop light. Gotta love efans
