Noice while accelerating from 50mph to 60mph
Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum. I just bought 2003 Harley and it's been making some weird noice and they have had it at the shop for about two weeks! They say it's carbon build up? When I get it up to about 50 mph and keep the rpms steady then I give it more gas it sounds like cans are being tossed in the engine in the front drivers side? What can it be? They tell me to take home and that it will go way by its self? I refused to take it what can be causing that noice? Some times it will do it every time I keep it at a constant rpm and try to speed up some times louder than others! Please help!!!!!!

What do you think it could be? I still have a chance to back out from the deal. I bought it at carmax took it back on the third day they have had it for two weeks and say that it's carbon build up that they cleaned it and that it will go away? I just don't know what to think and that's a bad azz truck I really want it but I don't want this to bite me in the azz later!

Some comment for whatever it may be worth.
Without any positive info, it's hard to do anything but apply some thoughts to this.
Is the 50 to 60 at light throttle?
Does it sound like marbles in a tin can?
If yes, igniton timing is going to far advanced.
A case like this requires a good Ford tech with his scanner and a willingness to look at the live data out on the road to see what is happening with the engine under those specific conditions.
At 50 mph there is not much boost from the blower at that low an RPM unless you get on it and /or it down shifts.
We don't have enough info at this time to go with.
Carbon buildup could be a cause of pre-ignition but if they cleaned it out it should at least show improvement.
You buy and you pay for the solution to the issue or be unhappy with the truck.

Are you using the highest octane gas you can get? You should not use 87 in it, you need at least 91, with 93 preferable if you can get it. If it's spark knock and you can't get it to stop, you WILL kill the engine, it's just a question of when.
