They are both car engines. Bring back the 7.5!

False, the 5.4 was a truck engine before it was stuck in a car. I dont think ive ever seen a fuel injected half ton with anything bigger than a 351 stock...

Dodge had the 5.9 (360), Chevy the 6.0 and now 6.2, and now Ford has the 6.2 in half ton form.

In a Ford, correct. However, prior to 1981, the F100/F150 had larger carbureted engines - the 352/360/390 FE, 400M, and 460.

yep. that is why i said fuel injected. I had to go back and fix it because we had a 77 with the 400. Also, fords 360 had to be the best all around motor!

I have been driving my 99 f150 xlt extended cab for about 12 years and one thing I tell everyone is that the 5.4 Triton is an amazing engine. It has been good to me. I don't know the smaller engine, but I am sure it is fine. I have pulled a dual axle trailer across the rockies a couple of times and was glad to have to bigger engine. But with the price of gasoline here it is something to consider next time perhaps. Gas will not be getting much cheaper in my lifetime.

I must say when i first got my 4.6 there was some to be desired and i wasn't sold at first but with a few mods and proper tuning I must say it has impressed me quite a bit. My first thought was to do A L-swap but after doing my research i have found that alot of guys have had really good luck with these motors and they can hold up to Bolt on power adders if done correctly. So I must say i am a guy who loves his 4.6. "the little small block that could" is what my buddies call it! LOL

I'm more than happy with my 4.2 V6. It keeps up with traffic and then some and will cruise above the speed limit anywhere in the country. It's a TRUCK. If I wanted to go faster I'd get a car with an appropriate engine. If I needed to tow heavy, it's not the right truck for the job - but it tows a 5x8 enclosed lowboy just fine.

Son in law has a 98 Lariat Scab 4x4 with a 4.6, and he's happy with his too, other than awful gas mileage. Then again it's also a TRUCK. Gets him back and forth to work, over to Home Depot, and out to the dump. Does a great job getting him through what little snow we get here too, but so does mine.

Look for a 97 f250 with one! A buddy just scrapped an 89 with the 460... Ran fine, just had wiring issues...
