Thanks for the responses! I love the older truck.. its a 99 xlt super cab.. coming from a 06 lariat supercrew loaded.. it was horrible. sweet looking but horrible driving. now, if I can just get some new wheels I would be doing good.

What I like about my 4.6 is I don't have to worry about cam phaser issues of the 5.4. A friend of mine has an '03 screw FX4 with the 5.4. I have driven it a couple times and have to say my '01 4.6L felt a lot more powerful. Granted his truck was stock and mine wasn't but I didn't think I had enough extra performance to actually best his truck. Had CAI, dual exhaust, underdrive pulley and hypertech programmer. Probably was mostly those 4.56's I had installed though. 3.31's with 35's = horrible.

This is the 97-03 forum, so comparisons to the 3V 5.4 aren't really valid.

I've had both and I must say, I enjoy driving the 5.4 much more.

2v 5.4 doesn't have the cam phasers... It's pretty rock solid and if you torque to spark plugs properly you don't have to worry about plug blow outs

Test drove an 01 4.6 and 5.4 SuperCrew back to back. Chose the 5.4, the power difference was noticable.

Only in the U.S.A would a 4.6 liter v8 be called "small/little".
It's too funny to see guys referencing their "little 4.6", gotta love it.

Hopefully your driving is better than your spelling.

Either way, I would have taken my '01 over his '03 any day. Gearing seems to help the 4.6L a good deal.
