Engine won't fire

Help. Parked my 97 f150 4.6 a couple of weeks ago, it was running fine. Tried to start it up this morning and it wont fire. Starter just spins with no sign of spark.

Where do I start?

thanks all (again)

First, - I don't understand the last part, - yea, it's sort of important. Does the engine crank, turn-over at all? If the starer just spins, the starter gear is out or you have flywheel damage.

If you checked spark and the engine turns over without producing any. On that 97, replace the crank sensor and she'll fire right up.

Okay, so I checked the fuel cutoff switch switch in the passenger foot area, found the fuel rail was pressurized with fuel, so it seems that I don't have a spark going to the plug.

Where do I begin?

thanks for any advice

Yes, the motor turns over. But no sign of an ignitition. Is there an easy way to test for spark?

thanks

Help me figure this one out please

I have a 1986 f150 that won't start. I put a new starter relay, alternator, and battery in it. It is a 6 cylinder. It tries to fire over, but then I turn the key and nothing. I'm stumped at this and need good help. Also when I put a screwdriver in the starter relay I get spark, and it tries to start.

Thank you in advance.

Try changing the crank sensor like jbrew said and see what happens.

Missdiabolical, your in the wrong forum.
This is 97 to 03 model years.
You have a straight 6 cylinder.

It has a completly different ECM control.
If it tries to fire, sounds like it's flooded.
Hold throttle wide open and crank it to see if it cleans out.

Okay, I took the afternoon off to change the crank position sensor as recommended by Jbrew. Thought it was going to be a monster but done in 1.5 hours and started right up. Could be my immagination but it seems to run better than before.

Thanks Jbrew
