From: Currently Oregon, Could be anywhere. Chasing the dream
Tune-up, Tires, Shocks, Battery, Tires and Brakes

I had a bad couple of years.. Lost a very high paying job and moved to Oregon to sort of semi-retire. I was tired of living in the Gulf of Mexico just to make a living. Oregon is where I use to vacation, and now I am living a vacation.

So in the past couple years I got kind of broke. Everything I had was run down and ailing, including my truck. I ended up getting a job that pays about a third what I am use to making and a few months later I get a job making more. It is like I am rebuilding. I ended up getting a month pay from my last job while I am working the new job... In other words I got an extra month's pay. I decided to put it into my old tired truck.

As the title says, I put in a Tune-up, Tires, Shocks, Brakes. I did a lot of reading here before I did all this stuff. I changed air filter, PCV, fuel filter too.

Let me tell you, when you go thru life just keeping all that stuff by the maintenance schedule you really never notice anything. But if you wait until all those things really need all that stuff it if so noticeable. It is like a brand new truck.

Now I shopped for everything to death, as I only had so much money. Les Schwab wanted almost $1400 just for the shocks and tires. I called and called and got a set of Goodyear Wrangler 265 70 17 for $550. (Les wanted $885). I got two of the shocks brand new from Craiglist for $50 and the two front at a parts store for $80 (Gabriel Ultra). I gave my guys $45 to change them. So Les wanted $1400 tires and shocks and I got it done for $720, or about half what Les wanted. Nothing lacking in Quality, only in price.

I got the brakes, spark plugs, a part of my front sway bar, done for less than $200 total.

I bought the battery for $92, the only thing I really splurged on.

I cannot remember what I paid for the Air Filter, lets say $20, and the fuel filter and PCV were like $10.

All this stuff I got done for $1100 and the truck is so happy. I have some COPs that I just got in the mail today from Ebay ($69). I will get around to changing those whenever, as it runs good now.

I am just so happy to have my truck back. I can go anywhere now, again.

So far I have only spent half my extra month pay. If I didn't shop around I would have spent it all. It pays to shop around and for me it was good to trust a couple struggling mechanics.

Glad to hear your back on track. And yes it does pay to shop around for a deal. Cheers
