2002 F150 Missing
2002 F150 Missing
I have a 2002 F150 4.6, 5 speed. It ran fine going to work one day last week but after an all day rainstorm, began missing terribly on the way home. Although it misses while idling now, it didn't then. It only missed when giving it some throttle in any gear. I replaced the fuel filter and having noticed one coil actually having a broken mount, I replaced the coil. I also cleaned the MAP sensor.
This morning I had a friend who is an actual mechanic (I am strictly shade tree) hook some of his diagnostic equipment up to see what readings he received. He immediately picked up 7 different codes. I forget the numbers on the codes (I know I should have written them down) but I do remember what his equipment said. 7 different coils were showing as weak or bad. There was a code indicating that the fuel pump was weak or bad. There was also a code indicating that the PCM was weak.
My friend indicated that while it was possible that all these things went out in the same day (it was running great until the aforementioned afternoon) he believed that the moisture had done some damage to the PCM , causing it to send out all these signals. He also told me that if 7 of the coils failed along with the fuel pump, he didn't believe the truck would be running at all, let alone as good as it is. His diagnosis is that it needs a new PCM.
After scanning these forums quite a bit over the last week, I've noticed some extremely educated people in here and I would love to get some of your opinions on this.
I am really sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. I've searched and found nothing quite like this situation. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Couple of things.
Being this is your first post we will forgive you.
1. Get the codes.
2. The friend's diaignostics can't show 'anything' as weak! I does not work that way.
Get the codes again unless they were cleared, then get the new ones that show.
Begin by addressing those codes.
This is why they are set and used to effect repairs once the systems implicated are known and understood.
Good luck.

I was simply posing the scenario to those who know more about it than I do, in hopes that somebody or anybody thought what he said concerning the symptoms/situation/problem...might make sense to them.
I certainly didn't mean to upset you. I'll try to remember when and if you ever pose a question that concerns any of the things I specialize in....to make sure you know that you should have had much more information and maybe the answer, before you asked me about it.
Sir, I'm sorry your taking it this way.
Your the one who is acting offended.
You needed to know the info I gave based on your post info..
We are more experienced than you and recognize you needed to have a corrected position in order to be helped.
If your still offended by the effort to help then have a good day..
Which will it be?

When someone politely asks strangers for help and receives the response "Couple of things. Being this is your first post we will forgive you." It is not offensive, it's absolutely insulting. If you didn't mean it in the arrogant manner it comes across, then I am sorry for taking it as such and I was wrong.
I will get the codes. He did clear them after taking his readings but I know he'll remember what they were. As soon as I get in touch with him, I will post.

I didn't come here and ask this question for your forgiveness. I came in here and signed up because I know for sure there are people in here that know vast amounts more about mechanical problems than I do. I have been messing with this situation for two weeks now and I really am at wits end. I don't have money to "throw" at the problem hoping to haphazardly stumble across a solution. I'm telling you what he told me in terms "I could understand." I read what his little gizmo said but I don't remember the precise wording and I sincerely apologize (as I did in my original statement) for not getting the codes.

I don't doubt that one little bit. That's why I asked for help here. If more info is needed then all that needs to be said is I need the codes and some more info in order to assist. There's no need to talk down to somebody that is asking for help, especially after I "pre apologized" for not having the codes. As I said in my last post, if I took it wrong, I am sorry. All I was asking is if anything I had to say about the situation with my truck and what my friend told me, sounded plausible to those who may have seen or dealt with something similar in the past..
I wouldn't ask for a dead on diagnosis for any problem with anything, online. I was simply bouncing this out there for opinions.

Aside from all the apologizing, what you need to do is get the codes read again and this time write them down exactly.
It's possible that your gem module has gotten wet or something similar. It is very difficult to diagnose issues without the codes. If at all possible when you get the codes written down get the number AND the description thanks

Mumbo Jumbo aside, all of it. -Gtxmatt made sense because you haven't at the time. As Bluegrass suggested from the get go, -get the DTC's, write them down if need be. We can help from there.
Good Luck.
