Charging A/C system

Ole red has started slacking off in the a/c department. My father had some bottles of r134a & one of those little hoses w/ the guage that goes with them like you can get at the parts store. So I brought them home with me. However, I can't seem to get the connector to snap down on the inlet there in front of the battery by the fan. You know right there in the front corner on the passenger side. Is that not the correct location? Or am I just not trying hard enough? I Watched a video on youtube of a guy doing it to his '02 Expedition & he seemed to be hookin it up in the same spot I was trying too.

I think that's the high side, try the low side on the accumulator next to the fire wall. That's where the one I bought fit.

Did you install the retrofitting to the service port?

the low pressure connection is on the side of the accumulator on the passenger side below the battery near the fire wall. Kind of hard to find it.

Yes it's rather difficult to find/see. it's in the area between the engine and battery in back by the firewall around the height of the bottom of the battery. Kind of a bugger to reach. Just be sure to NOT add freon to the high side, it can burst the can.

Yeah I found it, thanks. I did exactly what the instructions said, and the needle was about midways of where it should be. I squirted a little in there anyway. I guess I should have pushed enough in while I had it hooked up to get it to the higher side of normal. Hindsite... lol Seems to do a tiny bit better but still not blowing cold like I think it should.

Check airflow over the condenser. If it blows cold at 60mph but not while stopped, you could have a fan clutch problem. We had that same problem with one of our 6.0Ls. It burned up a clutch from idling for an hour with no good airflow going over the condenser

Speed doesnt seem to affect it any. Heat/Humidity do. On a day where it's 80-90* w/ low humidity it will blow 40* air steady. But if it get 90* and above or the humidity is real high, it wont ever blow lower than 60* air no matter what. And that's only w/ the fan speed on low. The higher you turn the fan speed up, the warmer the air gets. And when it's 95*+ outside and your a/c is blowing 80* air it sucks... lol I understand when it's hot as ***** outside the system has to work that much harder to cool down but, if its hot mine just wont ever cool down. Ever.

I'm not sure what to say here. Mine will freeze you out in a minute. It blows 37*F, but on a real hot day it might go into the 40s or low 50s, but I also have 35% all around (including the windshield.) I have a F-550 DD that has to stay on max cool no matter what, just to stay comfortable. Its a four-door with no tint.

Time to have a professional look at it.

I guess mine's not THAT far off then... Thats about what it blows but you have to keep the fan speed on low-med. Otherwise it warms up.

And on the professional looking at it note, no thanks. I'll just ride w/ it like it is. Im not paying a mech's high prices unless it goes out completely. Otherwise I can deal with it. lol
