2003 Ford F-150 AC issue

I noticed this am my AC wasn't blowing cold air, it was cool air. When I turn my AC on I do not hear the click noise under the hood and I used to hear my engine rev down a little. Can someone guide me as to what I should look for?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your A/C needs a recharge.

With your A/C off does your pump cycle on and off a lot?

I don't hear the pump go on. I used to hear a click noise when I turned on my ac and the engine would rev down a little. It doesn't do that anymore.

Open the hood. Find the compressor. Verify it is not spinning. Have someone select MAX A/C with fan at full speed. Then see if it turns on (whether at all or it takes some time).

Take it to an A/C shop and let them diagnose it. It may be low on refrigerant. If so, there is a leak somewhere. You will have to replace the part with the leak, have them scavenge the system, new orifice tube, and repressurize the system.

I have a 97 F150 4.6 and a while ago my AC compressor quit turning and it was the clutch on the compressor. If yours is like mine you can check the gap in between the clutch face and pulley. (See pic below)
If you take off the 8mm bolt (#3) on the front of the clutch there might be shims (washers)(#4) under the clutch face.(#2) If so try removing one and see if that helps. This changes the gap in the clutch. Had it happen to me about four years ago and it has been working great ever since. You don't even have to take off the belt.
Here is a picture of the breakdown.....

Hope this helps

Ron

Stop throwing parts at it till you can determine if it has enough refrigerant in it! The compressor won't engage if the pressure is too low.

THIS. Just take it to a shop and ask them to check the refrigerant level- most shops around here check it for free!

I found the problem. It needs the a manifold line. There's a small hole in it. Now i need to find where I can get one.

Thanks for all the input!!!

I'd have a pro do it, because it does need a new orifice tube, the system has to be evacuated with a vacuum pump, then properly recharged.

How do you know the refrigerant is fully charged? Did you check the pressures on both sides?

Compressor clutch gap should be roughly business card in spacing.
