Question F150 shutters when turning from a stop.

When I take off from a stop (e.g. turning from off-ramp, stoplight) the whole truck shutters a little bit while accelerating. What would cause this to happen?

when was your transmission last serviced? You may have a misfire.

I suspect it is the Limited Slip chattering. I would try to either add some of the Ford Friction modifier to the rear end or service the rear end with new fluid and make sure you pout the Friction modifier in.

More likely it has never been serviced. Should drain and refill with the proper gear oil (75w140) and make sure friction modifier is added.

Sounds like your rear differential needs to be serviced, but then again we aren't the ones driving it to get a feel of the symptoms to properly diagnose the problem. Is it throwing a code at all? If so, get it scanned and see what they say. I'm not sure but I don't think the rear end chattering would throw a code, but I know for a sure a misfire would.

Post up and let us know so we can help you further.

I have the exact same issue: I changed out the diff lube and used new synthetic plus modifier. Trans had a tech flush: I am putting new plugs and boots on next. Mine is very intermittent.

It feels like the shuttering is coming from the back of the truck so it's most likely the diff. Also I was walking past the back of the truck today and noticed a little bit of dirt collecting at the bottom of the diff, like it's leaking some, never noticed it before now.

A possiblity is one EMG brake assembly has physically come apart and jambing up.
Jack up the rear with both wheels off , Trans in neutral.
Rotate both directions and not any noises, drag etc.
Good luck.

There's also a slight whining sound coming from the back end when accelerating. Would having low diff fluid have anything to do with that?

Absolutely, I would recommend servicing that rear differential ASAP.

Thanks, I'll try to get it in by the end of the week. What's the likely-hood of it locking up with low diff fluid?

And if you have a 4x4, it would not hurt to service the front diff. Doesn't need friction modifier, but gear should be replaced. I believe for the front, Ford recommends 75w90.

Update on the servicing, I forgot to take a picture before I took the lid off. There was some leakage from the very bottom bolt.

Got the cover off

Got the lid all cleaned up and shiny

Got the lid back on and now I'm waiting for the silicone to cure
