Question on 'sealant' in outer roof channels

2002 FX-4 Super Crew.

Does Ford paint over the sealant found in the outer rain channels in the roof?

I ask because my roof was rusting around the sealant and at the leading edge of the inboard channels.

Had it repainted locally. They said they painted over the old sealant - "just like the factory does". Which surprised me.

What is under the sealant? Just primer?

Anyways - within 3 days of getting the truck back, the paint is cracking along the sealant. Seems that with 3 different materials - paint, metal, sealant - the expansion/contraction differences were too much.

Plus - I can see they did poor paint coverage because rust is already apparent along the sealant in one place. My guess is that they sanded to the bare metal but didnt do a good job of painting.

Haven't gone back yet.... open to suggestions/recommendations.

Thanks

Tom

Look up the Ford TSB 02-21-4.
It may be what your looking for.
If so, print it out.
The shop did not follow the reccomended procedure for this repair or does not know about it..
It may have to be done all over again.
Good luck.
